Linux Administration - Root password - reset (Grub)
- Boot system to grub boot menu.
- Press <ENTER> during the timer to select a kernel to boot.
- Select a kernel and hit 'e' to edit the kernel entry.
- Add a 1 to the end of the kernel line in the kernel entry. When finished hit <ENTER> to accept changes.
- Press <b> to immediately boot the system, which will now boot into single user mode.
- Once booted to the command prompt, type 'passwd'. Then change the root password to the new password.
- Type "reboot" and boot as normal.
Congratulations! (and much relief)
Your root password has been changed and you now have full access to your system.
